CROWNS
A dental crown is a custom-made, tooth-shaped cap that is permanently bonded over a damaged or weakened tooth. It fully covers the visible portion of the tooth down to the gum line, restoring its strength, shape, and appearance.
Crowns are designed to look and feel like your natural teeth, helping protect the tooth while allowing you to bite, chew, and smile with confidence.
A dental crown is a custom-made, tooth-shaped cap that restores the strength, shape, size, and color of a damaged or weakened tooth. Crowns help improve the appearance of your smile while protecting the tooth from further damage.
Crowns are commonly used to:
Hold weak, broken, or cracked teeth together to prevent further fractures
Support large fillings
Attach a dental bridge
Cover discolored or misshapen teeth
Protect dental implants
What to Expect at Your Visit
Getting a crown usually takes two dental visits. During the first visit, Dr. Long will prepare your tooth or implant by shaping it to fit the crown. She will take an impression of your tooth and surrounding gums, which is sent to a dental lab to create your permanent crown. A temporary crown will be placed in the meantime.
During your second visit, Dr. Long will remove the temporary crown and carefully bond the finished crown in place. Crowns are designed to look and feel like your natural teeth, helping you chew, bite, and smile with confidence.
With proper care, crowns can last 5–10 years—or even longer. To maximize their longevity, avoid habits like biting your nails, chewing ice, or grinding your teeth.
